Cabarete Sostenible is launching a new initiative rooted in the values that guide our work: food sovereignty, community innovation, and cultural pride.

Roots of Cabarete: La Canasta Sostenible is a monthly subscription basket filled with seasonal, organically grown produce from our community garden, community farm and local small producers plus handcrafted goods made by local artisans.
This is a grassroots effort to strengthen the local food system and provide access to healthy, chemical-free food grown right here in Cabarete.
We’re starting small—10 to 15 baskets per month—with the intention to grow sustainably and include more local producers along the way.
What’s in the subscription basket?

Each subscription basket is different, based on what the land gives us that month. All produce is grown without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, using organic methods. In addition, we include a rotating selection of shelf-stable products made at our community kitchen.
Here’s an example of what might be included:
Leafy greens: arugula, mixed greens, spinach
Vegetables: tomatoes, aromatic herbs like oregano poleo, mint, lemongrass, melisa (citronella), moringa, peppers
Roots: yuca, sweet potato, ginger, turmeric
Fruits: avocado, starfruit, guava, bananas or plantains
Artisanal goods: fruit jams, hot sauces, teas, and other shelf items made locally in small batches

This program directly supports the growth of our community farm and garden and creates opportunities for local growers, cooks, and makers. By subscribing, you're not just buying food—you’re participating in a system that values dignity, land, culture, and shared resources.
Yes — just like with our Share a Meal campaign, you can sponsor a basket for a family in need. We’ll make sure it’s delivered to a local household facing food insecurity.
