We're so excited to launch the first installment of Roots of Cabarete: Canasta Sostenible, a subscription service celebrating local and sustainable agriculture on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
Each installment highlights the powerful stories behind the food, starting with one of our inspiring partners: Finca Sol.
Located within the protected area of the Monumento Natural Lagunas Cabarete y Goleta—known to many as El Choco—Finca Sol is a vibrant family farm founded in 2021 by the Bowcutt family. Situated between Cabarete and Sosúa, in the province of Puerto Plata, this farm uses permaculture principles to cultivate a diverse fruit forest that respects the rhythms and natural abundance of the land.
Everything grown at Finca Sol—fruits, nuts, and vegetables—is 100% organic, without the use of artificial inputs. They also raise chickens and bees that produce honey. Their commitment to regenerative practices not only nourishes the soil but also strengthens the region's food sovereignty, harvest after harvest.
At Cabarete Sostenible, we are proud to collaborate with small, environmentally conscious producers like Finca Sol. Their work reflects our shared values of sustainability, community, and access to clean, local food for all.
